The Pop Stage reveals first 12 contestants


The Pop Stage, today’s biggest online talent competition in the country created and hosted by singer-actor Matteo Guidicelli with the support of Popeyes Philippines, has officially announced its first set of talented contestants after choosing from hundreds of entries.

On the show’s third episode last May 24, Guidicelli introduced special celebrity judge Jed Madela and revealed the first 12 contestants going to the next round after watching the first batch of audition videos. The shortlisted acts were judged based on creativity and originality, performance quality, and entertainment value.

Among the chosen talented performers was Venisse Nicole Sy, a 24-year-old singer from Caloocan City, who gave a powerful rendition of Sarah Geronimo's hit song, "Isa Pang Araw." Filipino-Italian heartthrob Luigi D'Avola, who is currently in Bilbao, Spain, also won the judges with his heartfelt gospel song performance.

Another aspiring singer, Rey Ann Ortouste from Minglanilla, Cebu, showcased her powerhouse vocals with a Martin Nievera hit song. The show's youngest contestant, 13-year-old Cedrick Ebe, was dubbed by Guidicelli as the young Jed Madela with his version of the classic piece, "The Impossible Dream."

Other singers who made it to the next round include Harmon Literal from Daraga, Albay who sang "Change the World" by Eric Clapton; 14-year-old Precious Dime from Lebak, Sultan Kudarat with her electrifying cover of "Banal na Aso, Santong Kabayo" by Yano; CJ Villavicienco from Batangas City who sang "Istorya" by The Juans; Life Viktourya Cruz from Cainta Rizal, who performed an acoustic rendition of "How Sweet It Is" by James Taylor; Sarah Mae Guno, a 21-year-old licensed interior designer from Batangas who showed another side of her with her soothing vocals; and Jehramae Trangia from Talisay, Cebu who showed her high-belting singing with a cover of Demi Lovato's "Warrior."

Aside from the singing acts, 23-year-old Martin Naling from Imus, Cavite made it also to the next round with his original spoken word poetry about the Filipino youth and the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic.And there's also Jobert Te Rentor from Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, who performed a hip-hop interpretative dance to the song "Galit" by Bullet Dumas.

Viewers can also visit The Pop Stage's official Facebook page to vote for their favorite act among the first 12 contestants. The one with the highest number of votes will be declared Popeyes Fan Favorite plus a Php 10,000 cash prize.

On The Pop Stage's next episode, Guidicelli, together with another surprise guest judge, will reveal the remaining contestants who will complete the Top 24.

Once the Top 24 is complete, they will battle it out with new performances every week where they will be scored by the judges until there’s only one act left standing. 

The winner of The Pop Stage will receive the grand prize of Php 1 million and a one-year contract with Viva Artists Agency.
